What Makes Summer Rolls Special?

When it comes to Vietnamese cuisine, the iconic summer rolls — also known as gỏi cuốn — are a true favorite. At Summer Rolls Restaurant, they have perfected the art of making these light, fresh rolls stuffed with shrimp, herbs, vermicelli noodles, and crisp vegetables, all wrapped in a delicate rice paper. But Summer Rolls is more than just about the famous summer rolls; it's a celebration of vibrant flavors and healthy ingredients that make every meal a memorable experience.

A Wide Variety of Dishes to Explore

One of the standout features of Summer Rolls Restaurant is the wide range of dishes that cater to all kinds of tastes. From traditional pho to banh mi sandwiches and com tam (broken rice plates), the menu offers something for everyone. The restaurant is particularly known for its fresh ingredients and healthy options, making it an excellent choice for those looking to enjoy a balanced meal without sacrificing flavor.

But let’s not forget the star of the show — the summer rolls. These delicate, yet satisfying rolls come with a variety of fillings. You can opt for the classic shrimp, or get adventurous with options like pork or vegetarian rolls. Each roll is served with a delicious peanut dipping sauce or a tangy hoisin sauce to enhance the flavors.

What’s Special About Summer Rolls?

Freshness is at the heart of everything at Summer Rolls. The ingredients are locally sourced, ensuring the highest quality produce and seafood. The rolls are always served fresh, never deep-fried, which allows the natural flavors to shine through. Each bite is a delightful crunch of vegetables, paired with savory proteins and delicate rice noodles.

Moreover, the ambiance of Summer Rolls is casual and welcoming, offering the perfect setting for both quick bites and leisurely meals. Whether you're stopping by for lunch or enjoying a dinner out with friends and family, you'll feel right at home in this cozy Rosemead eatery.

My Personal Experience

On a recent visit to Summer Rolls, I had the opportunity to try their famous shrimp summer rolls along with a bowl of pho ga (chicken pho). The summer rolls were served with a vibrant assortment of fresh herbs, crunchy vegetables, and plump shrimp — a true explosion of textures and flavors in every bite. The pho was equally impressive, with a fragrant broth that had been simmering for hours to achieve that perfect depth of flavor. The experience left me wanting to return and explore more of their menu.

I came here for lunch with my friend. We ordered bun bo hue, banh beo, and ngoi cuon. Everything tasted really good, especially the soup. I devoured it because it was so good. I highly recommend anyone coming here to try the bun bo hue. They make it the way my mom does (and she is hue). The service at every Vietnamese restaurant is the same. You order, they bring it to you, you eat, and you pay. If you want more water, you have to ask. Servers don't generally refill drinks unless you ask. This is very typical. I'm used to it, so I don't care. When I am in Rosemwead, I am definitely returning here to try other items.

Really cute spot with an indoor and patio eating area. My lemongrass beef rice plate was delicious! And the portions were huge. The only downside was parking as it's located in a plaza filled with other restaurants/retail.

First time trying summer rolls, it's next to an In-N-Out so parking might seem packed but they have their own parking lot somewhat separated from in n out. Upon entering the staff immediately seated us, the place is very clean and the mirror walls is very nostalgic. The server is friendly and very fast giving us the menu and drink order. We ordered Vietnamese coffee, Nem Nuong Cuon Voi Cha Ram Tom, Dac Biet Banh Beo Chan, and Banh Xeo. We also ordered dessert for later (Che Ba Mau). They also gave us a plate of veggies to accompany our food. The spring rolls were delicious, filled with plenty of vegetables and a shrimp egg roll to accompany the pork. I've never had Dac Biet Banh Beo Chan before, there's 12 bowls and they come out hot and steamy. Very delicious with fish sauce. The Banh Xeo was huge, crispy crunchy, and savory with the fish sauce poured over. Dessert was a great finishing touch, sweet and chewy! Restroom is individual use, women have their own and there's a unisex one.

Oh how I would be a regular here if I lived in LA.. Viet food in Houston is good but doesn't hold a candle to Summer Rolls rice plates. I ordered #15, the charbroiled lemongrass beef with bean curd wrapped shrimp cake and shredded pork skin and for roughly $16, it was a Texas sized serving that lasted me two meals. The beef was deliciously charred, the rice was soft and fluffy, and the shrimp cake was bouncy and savory. I wrapped the beef with some cucumber and pickled carrot in the lettuce and dipped it in the fish sauce and it was a home run. I wasn't the biggest fan of the pork skin because of the grainy texture, but there was so much other food on the plate to enjoy. The service was very nice and Ivy made our visit so pleasant and memorable. Definitely give this place a try if for some reason you haven't yet! The next time I'm here, I promise to take a better picture of the food!
